Mrs. Boyle's & Mrs. Smith's 3's T/Th @RCC

In Language Arts, we have been busy with letters N and C, learning the sounds and describing things that begin with C & N.   We continued to play our sorting letters game that really helps us to identify the beginning sound.

A love for books and reading starts early, so we are reading as many books as we can.   Some of our favorite books in the last few weeks include The Day the Crayons QuitThe Day the Crayons Came Home, and Clifford the Firehouse Dog.  We have also begun to look at books independently in the reading center.

Books are so good!

Taking a break from playing to relax with a good book!

Working hard on our C papers.

In Math, we continue to learn the names of colors, sorting, and basic shapes.  This week, we had fun learning about the numbers 5 & 6, and also enjoyed putting out “fires” (made up of shaving cream and chalk) in our sensory center.  They are beginning to learn to recognize basic written numbers and, to put out the fire, had to spray the water the number of times that coordinated with the number they saw. This activity helped us with fine motor, math, cooperative play, being a good friend and to have fun!   We also built a fire truck puzzle reinforcing the numbers 1-10.

Math with bugs!

Making a firetruck puzzle is so much fun!

In Science, we introduced the colors blue and orange and enjoyed matching objects by color.  We also continued to discuss the changes in the weather.  It’s amazing how quickly they pick up on the changes in the weather. We were able to do an awesome experiment with milk, food coloring, and liquid soap. When we added the liquid soap on a Q-tip to the milk the food coloring mixture disbursed, moving around the plate.  The kids loved watching and also taking a turn making the colors move.   We also were able to tie dye paper dipped in the mixture.

When we adding color to milk mixture and noted no movement.

Dish soap made the colors move.

Science can be so funny!

In Art, we made our own blue paint and painted blue birds.  We realized that our paint was a little gel like and didn’t paint the same as store-bought paint, but it was still fun to use.  We also drew self-portraits with our favorite color crayon.  We did such an amazing job that Mrs. Boyle and Mrs. Smith changed the bulletin board and put them up to share.  We had free art decorating our “911” with everything from crayons, markers, streamers, tissue paper, and construction paper.  Each one was unique and helped us remember the numbers to call when you have an emergency.

Enjoying painting.

In Social and Emotional, we continue to engage in cooperative playgroups.  We built “fires” in the block center and were able to use teamwork to put the fires out.  We were great firefighters!  In Dramatic Play, we had two weeks of fun playing Vet and Fire Department. We have great imaginations and love to pretend!

We also played games such as duck, duck, goose and stop, drop and roll.   This helped us practice what to do if our clothes catch fire. We are continuing to learn to be kind to each other and help our classmates out, especially when we see others struggling. Our students love to encourage each other to be successful.  We also are continuing to learn how verbalize appropriately to our peers when something or someone’s actions are not liked.  We are becoming better communicators and leaders with this new skill.

Pretending to be firefighters, putting out fires.

More firefighters at work.

Even the vet needs to be cleaned.

In our Gross Motor room, we have enjoyed playing on the monkey bars, slide, and building bridges with our blocks.  The excitement for the new equipment in the room is very palpable.  We added hopper balls, bowling, and colorful cones.  These new added treasures allow more learning, team building, and good sportsmanship opportunities.
Running races in the Gross Motor Room is so much fun!

On your mark, Get set, Go!

Cheering on our friends!

We had picture day during these last two weeks. We took our own photos of our class and wanted to share them.  We hope you enjoy our silly pictures and smiling pictures!
