The the past two weeks, we have been very busy playing while learning oh so much! While we have focused on the letters L and V, we have also worked on many additional skills like cutting, counting, writing, problem solving, sharing, fine and gross motor skills, having patience and what it means to be a friend. The kids are so busy learning so many important concepts and they really have no idea that they are doing it. In dramatic play, we created a science Lab where the children used microscopes to view many different items at close range. During V week, we played in the Veterinarian Office where the children took turns being the doctor and the customer whose bringing their pet in to be seen. It's amazing to see how no matter what we create in dramatic play the kids all work together practicing using their patience while they take turns so that everyone who wants to play in the center can.
At group time, we talked about Valentines' Day, what it is and who we celebrate and why. We also talked about different ways we show those that special people that we love them. We read many stories about love and friendship. Also, as a special treat for L week, we went on a field trip to the library for a special story time. The children really enjoyed listening to all the stories, songs and special activities. It was a perfect way to spread our wings and get a little fresh air. During V week, we continued talking about Valentines Day and we also voted about which vegetables are our favorites. We counted which one was the one we liked most and which one we liked least.

At the writing center, we not only focused on learning to recognize the sound and the formation of the new letters that we introduced. We are also continued to work on recognizing the beginning sounds of words. This is an important step in phonemic awareness. In addition, the children practiced spelling their name by searching for letters to lace together. Also, they worked on writing letters and cards to the people that mean the most to them.

At the math center, we worked on our fine motor skills when we laced letters. In addition, the kids practiced one to one correspondence and worked on simple addition when we worked with legos. During V week we sorted and graphed different conversation heart stickers by size. Also, we practiced writing our numbers and created the corresponding number in a ten grid.

At the art center, we painted with , we cut out the letter L and stamped it with alphabet stampers, printed lace, created salt watercolor hearts, and made vegetable vests when we painted with vegetables. We also created a vase out of the letter V and painted flowers when we printed with celery hearts. It was a very busy time and the children really seemed to enjoy all the different mediums in which we expose them to.

At the sensory table, the children searched for letters using magnetic wands while listing what letter they found on a nearby paper. By doing they are not only working on their letter recognition but practicing writing too. In addition, the children using sponge wands to wash vegetables. They really enjoyed washing all the different vegetables.

In Science, we worked with the light table to explore how light travels through some things and not others. We also worked on color blending when we layered two different colors and how when combined they make a different color.
