Ms. Denise and Ms. Sandy T/Th 3's at the RCC

Spring has officially arrived. However, “Mother Nature” needs to decide if it will stay spring or if winter is going to come back. We are in the home stretch of school.  It seems like only yesterday we just started.

Spring Tea was a great success! We are so proud of the children! We hope you enjoyed yourselves! Thank you to all who brought in fruit for our tea!

At Circle, we talked about the calendar and weather and sang the alphabet. We read the books, “Panda Bear, Panda Bear, What Do You See?”, “Brown Bear, Brown Bear What Do You Hear?” and “My Five Senses”. We played a sensory guessing game. The children took turns putting their hand in a paper bag and touched an object then guessed what it was.  We also played animal charades.  Ms. Denise whispered an animal into a child’s ear, they acted it out and the other children guessed what animal it was.

Can you guess what is inside the bag?

I am a cat! Meow!

I am a lion! Roar!

In Language Arts, the children continued tracing and writing their names.  Most can recognize their names and some can even recognize their classmates names.  We also learned a song about our five senses.  In small group the children talked about wild animals and what animal is their favorite. We talked about the letters R and Z and thought of words that start with those letters. The children traced R and Z with dot art as well.

A fun activity we did in Math was sand paper shape crayon rubbing.  Different shapes were cut out of sandpaper.  The children put paper over a shape and then used a crayon to rub over the shapes.  The children enjoy playing with puzzles. We had magnetic puzzles for them to play with and tangrams (shape cut outs) to make pictures. For example, by using different shapes they made a train and butterfly.  The children also counted with dinosaurs and paper plates with numbers 1-6 written on them.

For Art, most of the children enjoyed finger painting with paint and salt.  Another activity the children had fun with was free art.  We put out paper, crayons, markers and stickers for them to create with. They sure love stickers!! The children drew pictures of their favorite animals.   These pictures were made into a class book.

In Science, we used our sense of smell and taste to do a smell and taste test.  We smelled a lemon, cinnamon, vanilla and peppermint.  Then we tried a lemon and cinnamon flavored Teddy Grahams.  Everyone gobbled up the Teddy Grahams.  We had a few children who passed on trying the lemon.  Some of the children that did try the lemon liked it.  The children also put together a mother and baby puzzle matching up the baby with the mother.

What does that smell like?

Social Studies, we discussed different community helpers, such as, zoo keepers, police officers and firefighters.  Children dressed up like their favorite community members.

We played with a new toy in the gym this week. A stretchy band! We made shapes with the band and pretended it was a pool. We also played with a parachute. We were an ocean making little waves and big waves.

The preschool classroom invited us to observe their science experiment. We found out what happens when you put Mentos in a bottle of Pepsi.  It was so cool!!

WOW!!
