Ms. Sandy and Ms. Nicole's Pre-K at RCC

Ms. Sandy and Ms. Nicole's Pre-K at RCC

Happy Spring Preschool Families! We have been having so much fun exploring shadows and reflections inside and out of our classroom. We hope you enjoy learning about some of the activities the children have been exposed to.

Enjoying the beautiful weather while playing a fun
game of hopscotch. Our shadows are playing right along with us!

After reading the book, Kitten's First Full Moon, the children learned that
reflections are products of light. We discussed that light affects people, animals
and different items and as an extension of the book, we made a reflective/non-reflective collage.
They discovered that the materials with a shiny surface are called reflective, and the materials
with a dull surface are called non-reflective.

Exploring reflections outside of our classroom using a map
to guide us on our journey. The children had fun learning how to read
a map and how to document the number of reflections they found.
How do you know its a reflection, and not a shadow?

Creating shadow illustrations using crayons and our knowledge
that a shadow can show an objects shape, however, it can't show colors or details.

Exploring an objects shadow. What happens if I move the artificial
light source closer to the object?  How about if I move the light away from
the object? What is the difference between an artificial light source and
a natural light source?

Playing a fun activity called Knock it Down. Children first build a
tower using cups, and then they count how many cups they used. After
they have counted how many cups they have used they then get to knock down their
tower. What a fun way to incorporate so many different skills (eye-hand coordination, counting,
spatial reasoning, fine motor, creativity, and engineering skills).

Using our fine motor skills to write sight words. I recognize all of the words, yippee!

Collaborating with friends to create a wonderful structure

Using unfix cubes to create a structure and then using
a mirror to see its reflection. Wow, I can use the block reflection
to count and see how many blocks I used.

Using one another as mirrors to create a reflection. What fun!

How many blue dinosaurs do we have? How many red? How many green
and yellow? Which color group has the most? Which color group has the least amount?

Collaborating with friends is so much fun and rewarding!

Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful children with us and visiting our classroom blog. Have a wonderful weekend! See if you can find any shadows or reflections over the weekend. 😀
